Episode 11: Mary Bell: The 11 Year Old Serial Killer
Show Notes
This episode covers the tragically creepy story of Mary Bell, one of the youngest killers in the history of the UK. Mary Bell committed her first murder on May 25, 1968, the day before her eleventh birthday, killing 4 year old Martin Brown in a disturbing manner. Mary's behavior following her first murder was even more alarming, and she only escalated in violence from there, killing three year old Brian Howe on July 31 of that same year. This episode covers Mary's traumatic childhood experiences that may have led her down a path of violence at such a young age, as well as her trial, sentencing, and her subsequent release in 1980. The last news the world received of Mary Bell came in 2009, and it is believed that she is still alive and living under a false identity with the rest of her family. What could possible have driven such a young child to commit 2 murders, and how responsible should she have been held for her actions? Was the eleven year old simply born evil, or was she experiencing severe psychological trauma of her own that desperately needed attention?
